Hwy Noise Barrier Study

In recent years, there has been growing concern over highway traffic noise and it’s effect on surrounding households.  This effect seems to take the form of disrupting conversation, sleep, and other everyday activities.  Studies have shown that some of the most pervasive sources of noise in our environment today are those associated with transportation.  Traffic noise tends to be a dominant noise source in our urban as well as rural environment.  In response to this growing concern, this study has been put into place.  It shall essentially look at noise abatement measures of Federal, State, and Local transportation departments, how these abatement measures are carried out, and the criteria required for specific areas to receive abatement measures.  Also, this study will look at some area’s in the Northern Kentucky area that are notorious for severe traffic and has houses nearby to see if they satisfy the requirements for abatement measures.
