Insect Noise Study

Professor Jon Hastings of the Department of Biological Sciences has been studying the sounds produced by selected insects.  His studies have attempted to characterize the various sounds, particularly those produced prior to a mating process.  Of particular interest to Dr. Hastings are the sound characteristics that females use to evaluate males and make mating choices, the possible importance of signal site locations chosen by males and the effect of temperature on signal characteristics.
